Laser hair removal
We offer limited laser hair removal. We love our Light Sheet System, considered one of the best and safest. The machine works by shining a laser beam on the hair bulb. The pigment in the hair bulb then absorbs the energy from the laser, and the bulb is damaged. Each hair bulb needs to be treated multiple times. The procedure is described as “Permanent Hair Reduction”, rather than “Permanent Hair Removal” because even with a series of successful sessions, sometimes the hair partially grows back.
It realistically takes 4-6 sessions to get an acceptable result, and even then you may have a little persistent growth. The results are quite satisfactory in most cases. The hardest part is that you must discontinue any waxing or plucking 6 weeks before your first session and during the course of your treatments. The hair really needs to be dark and coarse for the laser to really see it. Fine, white or blonde hair just simply doesn’t have enough pigment to have a successful treatment. We cannot treat you if you are tan, so plan accordingly.
When you come in for your treatment we will first apply topical anesthesia to numb the skin. This takes about 10 minutes to work. There is very little real discomfort during the procedure. You will be red and each follicle will be a little swollen for 24 – 48 hours. Most patients are able to go back to their normal activities immediately.
The laser does not treat very fine hair, or hair that is very light in color. We offer treatment for unwanted hair of the face, the underarms, neck and abdomen.
