Products and sunscreens
Presidio Dermatology carries a select group of products that we have tested ourselves and that we think are especially good. If you want, during your appointment we will talk with you about what you have tried in the past and then recommend a regimen that will get you started on your goal of beautiful skin. For complete rejuvenation, the Obagi NuDerm program is the most aggressive and is designed to restore sun damaged or pigmented skin back to health and beauty. It works because it contains powerful exfoliants, pigment lighteners and tretinoin. Obagi NuDerm is typically used for a 16 week treatment program and costs about $500. It is a bit hard on your skin at the beginning although reactions vary in intensity. The results are amazing, and are well worth the effort.
The Obagi C Line is great for skin that is more moderately sun damaged or pigmented. It contains a gentle exfoliation lotion and a pigment lightener, but does not cause the peeling and the redness that the NuDerm line does. For general maintenance this is a great way to go.
We sell several acne lines. Obagi has two acne kits, one for mature skin and one for oily skin. LaRoche Posay has a wonderful line for teenagers, and it is priced very reasonably.
For dry and sensitive skin we suggest the LaRoche Toleraine system. The extra rich moisturizer is especially good as a night cream for dry skin.
We have an array other products, including several popular physician strength antioxidants. We offer Vitamin C preparations and a couple of great eye creams too.
And then we of course have several sunscreens. Sunscreen is by far the most important part of anyone’s routine. We recommend a sunscreen with a physical sun block and an SPF of 35 or higher for daily use. The physical block can be either titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. Our personal favorite is Elta Block, and all of our doctors use it every day. Elta is designed to be applied every morning as a moisturizer, so you can even skip a step! You might also want to try the LaRoche Posay line called Antehelios. It has a slightly different feel, and some patients prefer it. Ask us for a recommendation!
