Warts (Verruca Vulgaris)

Presido Dermatology | San Francisco Pediatric Dermatology | WartsWarts are the most common viral skin infection in children. They are caused by human papilloma virus (HPV) and can occur anywhere, but they are most common on the hands and feet.  Sometimes they can be painful, especially when on the feet (plantar warts).

Treatment for warts commonly includes over-the-counter salicylic acid and in-office freezing.  In cases of severe warts, other targeted therapies are available, including both topical and injectable treatments, which can be very effective in more difficult cases.
