CO2 Deep Post Care

CO2 Laser Post Procedure Instructions – Deep

  • Apply occlusive ointment (Vaseline or Aquaphor) to prevent direct contact between the treated tissue and the air during the healing process. The use of an occlusive ointment improves comfort and can reduce the sensation of pain and burning by preventing air from contacting the treated region. After healing is completed, a heavy moisturizer may be used
  • You may apply cool compresses (cold water on gauze or paper towel) immediately after treatment, you may experience a “hot” feeling in the tissue which can last a few hours to a few days
  • You can wash the area with water and gentle cleanser 2x/day starting the morning after your treatment.
  • After cleansing, apply vinegar soaks twice daily to reduce burning sensation, decrease swelling, reduce the possibility of infection
  • Directions: Mix 2 tablespoon white vinegar with 1 cup warm water. Wet paper towels with mixture and press onto treatment site for 10-15 minutes
  • Immediately reapply occlusive ointment or moisturizer for at least four days after treatment
  • There are no showering restrictions, but avoid very hot water and steam on the treated area
  • Do not pick at or aggressively scrub the exfoliating skin/scab-like tissue. Gentle exfoliation with fingertips while washing with non-abrasive cleanser is sufficient
  • Sleeping with head elevated on pillows (head above heart level) the first few nights post treatment can help minimize swelling
  • Avoid direct sun exposure. Apply SPF 30+ when skin has healed. Sunscreen with zinc oxide provides broader protection
  • Wear a protective hat or visor for the first 2 weeks while outdoors
  • Avoid dirty, dusty environments, painting, hairsprays, and perfumes while skin is healing
  • Avoid mechanical exfoliation (scrubbing) for 4 weeks
  • We recommend waiting until after skin has healed to apply makeup
  • Some pinkness, crusting, and skin irritation is expected.  If you develop blisters or worsening pain, please contact our office
