Microneedling Pre + Post Care

MICRONEEDLING PRE + POST CARE

This innovative skin rejuvenation treatment involves passing a small pen designed with very small needles over the skin. This creates micro-injuries in the skin at varying depths which triggers the skin regeneration process. As the skin continues to heal, it looks and feels noticeably smoother, brighter, and more toned.

BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT

  • Avoid all of the following for two weeks prior to treatment: chemical peels, waxing, and chemical depilatories.

  • Do not shave the treated area on the day of the procedure.

  • If possible, please come to your appointment with clean skin and no makeup.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • The medical assistant will have you remove makeup with a makeup removal wipe.

  • Pre-treatment photos will be taken to help us track your progress.

  • In most cases, the medical assistant will apply a topical numbing ointment to the treatment area which will be left on for about 20 minutes. This will reduce discomfort during your procedure.

  • You may feel a warm, scratchy sensation and some discomfort particularly on boney areas like the forehead.

  • The procedure itself can last from 10-20 minutes depending on the amount of surface area being treated.

  • Please tell us if you have a history of cold sores because you will need to take valtrex pills to prevent infection

FOLLOWING YOUR TREATMENT

  • Directly following the treatment your skin may appear red, swollen, or sunburned. Bruising in the treated area(s) is also possible. Your skin may feel hot, tender, and/or stingy.

  • Hyperpigmentation (darkening of the treated skin) can rarely occur in some skin types. Please call us if you experience this uncommon reaction.

  • You may use cold compresses (5 minutes on, 10 minutes off) as needed to help ease both redness and swelling.

  • Sleeping with your head elevated for the first night will also help to reduce swelling.

  • You may apply Elta MD laser enzyme gel the night of your procedure.  You may also use this gel under your moisturizer for the first few days after the procedure.

  • Do not cleanse your skin until the day after your procedure

  • You can resume your normal skincare products (eg gentle cleanser,Vit C, moisturizer, sunscreen) the day after your procedure.

  • Avoid use of chemically exfoliating skincare (e.g. Tretinoin/Retin-A, glycolic acid, salicylic acid) until skin is fully healed.

  • Avoid mechanical exfoliation (using scrubs, washcloths, or cleansing brushes) on the treatment area until skin is fully healed.

  • Use a broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher starting the day after your procedure.

  • You may apply makeup starting the day following your treatment. Mineral makeup is preferred.

  • It may take 4-6 weeks to see the full result of your first treatment, and 3-5 treatments may be required to achieve the desired result.
